Recreation for good health. For a long time people have been aware that "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."Everyone need to allow time for the kind of activity that will help him to re-create his mind and body. This must be a change from the work he does most of the day. The kind of recreation that is best for you need not be vigorous physical activity. In fact, the high school student who spends two or three hours a day pracicing for a varsity team should take up a quiet sort of activity for his leisure time.On the other hand, student will do well to take part in some active sport. In choosing a healthful form of recreation, remember that"a change is as good as a rest." Leisure time is the time during the day which is really yours. It is the time in which you can do what you want to do.Yet it is easy to fritter it away. Some of your leisure-time pursuits should help you to grow socially. One activity that would do so is talking with others.Dancing, singing in choral group, playing in an orchestra, or acting in community shows are other example of this kind of activity. There are many sports, of course, that will help you to make friends. You should also have some leisure-time interests that you can pursue when you are alone.Reding is one of the best of the "solitary pursuits."Not only will a good book help you to relax;it will help you to grow.Listening to music and playing a musical instrument are also highly satisfying forms of recreation.Hobbies such as atamp-collecting, pottery-makeing or nature study are others.
